diy thursday: natural sink cleaner

I am not a huge fan of having a white kitchen sink because it gets so easily dirty and stained. Trying to clean it with soap or cleaning solution doesn't really remove the stains.

A SUPER easy, natural and very quick trick is to use the trusted baking soda. Just sprinkle the sink with baking soda. With a damp rag/sponge scrub the sink and like magic the baking soda wipes away the stains. Like magic I tell you!

Wash the sink out and the sink is white and sparkly again.

diy thursday: removing sticker goo

I have always struggled to get sticker goo off containers in order to be able to reuse them. I had pretty much given up trying to reuse such containers until I stumbled upon a blog post on How To Remove Sticker Goo! What an incredibly easy and amazing little trick.

All you have to do is smear some peanut butter on the container with the stubborn sticky residue and then wait for about 15 minutes or so.

Then simply wipe off the peanut butter. On a couple of the stubborn areas I had to use my nail a little, but it came off pretty easily.

As you can see, it got all of the sticky stuff off and now it is ready to be used for something new.

maybe it is better not to know

One year ago today, little did I know, was the beginning of a much longer sickness journey than I would have ever expected. After being sick over the weekend, I remember going to the doctor for an unrelated thing - simply to get a referral for my ocular migraines. I still wasn't feeling well, but didn't want to cancel the appointment. There had been a major car accident right by my doctor's office minutes before I arrived so I was forced to park a ways away and had to walk in the heat with a police escort to get to my doctor's office. I am not sure why I was so insistent on not rescheduling my doctor's appointment. I ended up passing out in the doctor's office and had to stay there for a couple of hours before I was allowed to drive home. Little did I know, this was only the beginning of a sickness journey I am still walking through.

I often times just want to know. Just want to know how long I am going to be sick. When and IF I am going to recover. I often believe it would make it easier. To know. On the other hand I do think it is a blessing that we don't know what the future holds. If I would have been told a year ago that in a year I would still be dealing with sickness and it would get much much worse in the month to come, I am not sure that would have been beneficial to my hope and resilience to keep plugging along and working on getting better. Not knowing the future has given me hope. Without this hope I am not sure I would keep pressing on day after day, month after month. I keep thinking it will get better, it has to.

diy thursday: natural dishwasher cleaner

Our dishwasher has been leaving dirt on our dishes lately (completely annoying) so I set out to try to find a solution. On Pinterest I found a link to How to Clean Your Dishwasher and I thought I would give it a try.  It was super easy. All I did was run the dishwasher through a complete cycle with only two cups of white distilled vinegar (the miracle worker) in a glass container.  When the cycle was done, the dishwasher looked very white and sparkling clean. Seemingly this meant that it worked.  Since I wasn't sure what was causing the dirt on our dishes it wasn't confirmed until we ran the dishwasher the next time full of dishes. And it was a success! Yay for clean dishes.
